Yim Chan
Chief Privacy Officer and Chief Information Officer, IBM

Yim Chan is the Chief Privacy Officer and CIO/CoE executive for IBM Canada. As Chief Privacy Officer, Yim is responsible for guiding information handling policies and practices across IBM Canada and is a member of the IBM enterprise privacy management team within the IBM Corporation. This team is responsible for cross-IBM privacy leadership in areas of privacy-related policies and practices as well as privacy-enabling innovations in technology such as RFID solutions. Yim holds two patents for a Business Application Dialogues Architecture and Toolset in the privacy assessment environment. 

In addition to being an active member of the Canadian CPO Council, Yim sits on the Canadian advisory board of the International Association of Privacy Professionals (IAPP) working towards a Canadian certification program for privacy professionals (CIPP/C). She is a speaker at a number of privacy-related conferences. 

Yim has worked at IBM for over 27 years. She has held several middle management and executive positions in software compiler development, industry solutions and Information Technology. Her positions at IBM also included international assignments to the Far East. 

Yim graduated from the University of Waterloo with a Bachelor of Mathematics/Computer Science degree and earned a Master’s Certificate in Project Management from George Washington University. She participates in the Women in Technology mentoring program in the Greater Toronto Area.
