John MacKillican was appointed Chief Information Officer (CIO) at the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) in January 2005. As the CIO, Mr. MacKillican is responsible for the RCMP‘s Information Management and Information Technology (IM/IT) program. The program encompasses all information necessary to deliver the RCMP‘s mandate, as well as the systems used to access, communicate, record, share and manage this information. It also incorporates all manual and computer-based systems, support to National Police Services (NPS) applications and network services, as well as wireless and wireline communications. As a former Ontario Provincial Police Inspector with over 25 years experience in policing and project management, he transferred to the RCMP in 2003 as Director of two major crown projects, namely, Phase 3 of the Canadian Police Information Center Renewal (CPIC-R) Project and the Real Time Identification (RTID) Project. Under Mr. MacKillican’s leadership, the RCMP’s CIO Sector will continue to focus on providing solutions and innovations designed to drive change and obtain results in support of the RCMP’s strategic goal of safe homes and safe communities for all Canadians.
