The Chief Information Officer sets government direction and standards with respect to Information Management/Information Technology, and guides the development of a co-ordinated whole-of-government approach. Mr. McCandless is directly accountable for CITS as a shared services agency and integral part of Solutions B.C. Mr. McCandless began his career with the BC Government in 1975, spending the first ten years with Post Secondary Education, followed by two years with Treasury Board Staff. He was appointed Assistant Deputy Minister of the British Columbia Court Services Branch in March, 1998, after four years as Assistant Deputy Minister of Management Services Branch in the Ministry of Attorney General. Mr. McCandless became the CITS CIO/COO in 2004. His career focuses on strategic planning, financial management, and organizational development and integration. He has a Bachelor’s degree from the University of Victoria and a Masters of Public Administration from Queen’s University.
