Dr. Ewa Kulesza was appointed the first Inspector General for the Protection of Personal Data by the Seym of the Republic of Poland on April 4, 1998 and reappointed for a second term on April 26, 2002. She specializes in social law and policy and is the author of more than 50 specialist publications in this field. Until her appointment as Inspector General for the Protection of Personal Data, Dr. Kulesza worked at the University of Lodz and also took up a position of judicial decisions counselor in the Constitutional Court. As Inspector General, Dr. Kulesza is responsible for ensuring the compliance of data processing with the provisions on the protection of personal data; issuing administrative decisions and considering complaints with respect to the enforcement of the provisions on the protection of personal data; issuing opinions on bills and regulations with respect to the protection of personal data; initiating and undertaking activities to improve the protection of personal data and participating in the work of international organizations and institutions involved in personal data protection.
