Chris Norman leads the Group in the Office of the corporate Chief Information Officer responsible for corporate policy and major planning initiatives. In addition to the Office of the Executive Director, Strategic Planning and Policy includes two central agencies that are responsible for the province's privacy, access and information legislation and policies (the Privacy and Legislation Branch and the Corporate Information Management Branch). Chris is also the executive sponsor of the Corporate Authentication Project (CAP) - which is overseeing the development and implementation of a common authentication service for the BC government. Chris has lead a number of key legislative and policy initiatives for the BC government, including most recently the development and implementation of the
Personal Information Protection Act (BC's private sector privacy legislation), several sets of substantive amendments to the
Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act (an act Chris helped develop and implement), and the privacy and legislative solutions to the USA Patriot Act. Chris has also represented BC in a variety of federal-provincial forums and projects. Currently, Chris chairs the Privacy Sub-Committee of the Public Sector CIO Council. Chris has been involved in legislative and information initiatives and programs in BC (and Ontario) since 1979 and holds a BA (1977) and an MA (1979) from Queen's University in Kingston.
